Like it or not EquifaxGate has set in motion a lot of important conversations that we need and should be having right now. I say thank you, it was only a matter of time before some major breach event came along to be the catalyst.... unfortunately Equifax lost the flip.
Lets be truthful with ourselves for a moment, there are any number of organisations that hold vast amounts of our personal data. I can guarantee each of these firms and agencies count their lucky stars Equifax is taking the bullet for them. Will EquifaxGate be the agent we need for real change? My optimistic side hopes it will be, history says likely not though. Change will only occur when holding onto old ideas and habits reaches 10 on the pain scale....right now it feels like we are hovering around 5. Some folks are setting their hair on fire, others are blissfully ignorant of the consequence of these large breach events.
Here's hoping somewhere out there is a cyber Howard Beale just about ready to lose it and has the media clout to get heard.

7 年I believe that half of the organisations are happy they are not the breach on the news. The other half being the positive person that I am really does want to find out how they can embed cybersecurity into the organisation without being a inhibitor. Working with board members and CEO's myself, I feel a mindset change is incoming. It is up to us cybersecurity professionals to be clear on what will provide value in the short but also the long term.

7 年Excellent points! I could while away the hours, putting out the fires, and finding those to blame. They could catch them on the wire and the packets that they fire, it they'd only had a SIEM. Vulnerabilities so latent, they always make a statement, when breached to our disdain. You would scan it and then patch it, and then monitor and watch it,,,,,,IF, you ONLY HAD BRAIN!
