We keep thinking without acting

We keep thinking without acting

Do you act without thinking or think without acting? To exist in this world you don’t need thinking and in many cases it is a problem. The truth of the matter is that philosophers, scientists and thinkers are a great luxury but they are not necessary to live a happy live and have a functional society. Moreover, I thin the sign of a good thinker is to realise that thought is not as important as one might imagine. I will ‘act without thinking’ for say 100 bucks, because I have no choice. It has been what I have always done, and despite even the pretensions that I might make even to myself, it is what I will do until the day that this body ends it's habitation by whatever I might actually be

If “I" actually amounts to anything at all. It has been demonstrated that our actions commence before we are conscious of deciding to perform them. What we think of as moment to moment volition is actually the story that we make up after the fact while the information processing, decision making, and initiation of response are happening on a level that is a few steps up from reflex but is not cognitive as we generally conceive of it.

This process is occurring on a nonverbal level and operating on patterns that have survived the trial and error of Darwinian selection since literally the dawn of time as we understand it. That part of us can turn the “talky" art of us off if we seem unlikely to be able to cope with 9 serious, and it is related closely to the part of us that keeps our hearts beating without need for input along with all the rest of the background functions, each of which is an act of it's own, repeatedly. To be able to think before acting the way people like to think that they do, that would be the purview of what could be best described as “God".

With questions like this i think you have to know yourself very well before you decide which to do, if you trust your instinct will deliver the best for you or not. Sometimes though whilst you can think strongly about something, it’s for the greater that you don’t act on it and keep those thoughts to yourself. i think it would be best evaluating your knowledge or experience with the subject or situation at hand before deciding whether you do anything.

It's a delicate combo. Those who act without thinking end up in prison. Those who think without acting, well, that's self explanatory. Acting without thinking can get you killed. Thinking without acting is less dangerous. Adults who act without thinking are reckless beings. Impulsivity is often a sign of mental disorders. These people frequently land themselves in awkward situations, dangerous situations and thereby becoming a source of embarrassment to their families and friends.

If they are driving, they can endangered the lives of other road users. They are also susceptible to many anti social behaviour such as lying to get out of a difficult situation, committing an adultery at the spur of the moment, and a propensity for substance abuse. They have often are not remorseful about their conduct. This behaviour is considered anti social by the general population. Do we really need to think before acting? (Real thinking, not a 2-3 second thinking) I feel that in a world of uncertainty, 90% of the time it’s better to act and reflect on our actions afterwards, what’s your point of view?

You don’t need this long to think about something. But let’s assume it is this long, if some of the decisions made with such a rush are disastrous and cannot be reversed, is it really worth it to get into a huge hassle because of the urgency of the decision making? There is no need for such urgency. I am a doctor and we deal with life or death situations all the time, even then when you need to act for life or death you can spare 2–3 seconds to make the right decision, so I don’t see why there is the need for such urgency in real life where there is no such need for it. In many instances that urge to act is replaced by not acting. And if there is a need to do something, it’s better to think it through, what if my decision proved fatal? Is it worth the urgency? The world is chaotic and unpredictable but it’s not to the point where you cannot make 2–3 seconds decision.

As the saying goes if we do not take the 1st step then are we to know what's going to happen. Because thinking will only give you ideas and a perspective but acting and implementing those ideas will give you some results which might be right or wrong after which you can rectify your mistakes if any. For example - everything that has been invented from wheel to even a small item that we use in our day to day lives were someones ideas once but when those ideas were put to action/implementation they arrived at some results and innovated/ invented . So, don't just keep thinking because things get done only if you act. Take the 1st step who knows you might be surprised.?Cheers!
