The Faculty of Environmental Sciences and the Leibniz-Institut für ?kologische Raumentwicklung e.V. (Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development) invite applications for the Chair of Spatial Information and Modelling associated with the Head of the Research Area Spatial Information and Modelling at the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) in a joint appointment procedure according to § 62 (2) of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (S?chsHSFG) to be filled by January 1, 2023.

The Faculty of Environmental Sciences unites - unique in Germany - the three environmentally related scientific fields of forestry, geosciences and hydrosciences under one roof. The interdisciplinary and international orientation creates great synergy potentials. Overarching focal points are the monitoring and modelling of the Earth system at global, regional and local scales, as well as the sustainable development of the human habitat. For more than 20 years, there has been close cooperation with the IOER in research and teaching.
The IOER is a non-university research center and a member of the Leibniz Association. As a leading center for advanced spatial sustainability science, it develops cross-scale spatial information, analysis tools and knowledge, as well as policy- and planning instruments that enhance adaptive and transformative capacities in spatial contexts. To that effect, the Institute strives to elucidate the internal and external sustainability orientations of individuals, organizations and society, as well as their embeddedness in socio-ecological-technological spatial configurations. The IOER promotes gender equality and values the diversity of its team. It is certified by Total-E-Quality.
You will be responsible for managing the IOER research area "Spatial Information and Modelling", including the research data infrastructure "IOER-Monitor" located here. This will likely be expanded into a research data center from 2023 (subject to funding approval, with nine full-time positions on a permanent basis). At the same time, the subject area of "Spatial Information and Spatial Modelling" at TU Dresden is to be represented with two SWS. We expect you to be willing and able to teach in English. Teaching is to be provided in Master's degree programs at TU Dresden (in particular Spatial Development and Natural Resource Management, Geography, Geoinformatics Technologies). This includes the supervision of master theses and dissertations, especially within the framework of the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS), which is run jointly with the IOER. We expect your active participation in the further development of the cooperation between TUD and IOER.
You should have an international reputation for outstanding scientific work in the field of spatial information and modelling and have experience in university teaching and supervision of young scientists.
