We are here...
2021! If you are reading this, well done, you survived the most challenging year in the world ever ever ever… If, like so many of us, you have lost a loved one or family member, our thoughts are with you and, hopefully, 2021 will be the year when we put COVID firmly in the rear view mirror.
My original title for this blog post was “Dry hands and hard work” because essentially, for me personally, that is pretty much all 2020 meant; lots of work and lots of hand washing and alcohol gel, which left my hands really dry and sore. No doubt many of you are in a similar position and that will probably continue for the foreseeable future with the current lockdown too!
As this is the first post this year, I chose not to do a “Happy New Year” kind of post because, whilst there are things to be happy about, it is noticeable that people are not really talking about New Year resolutions this year, or all things we are planning to do or the places we are going to go. We just need to get through it and out the other side now…
We are here… We are in the same boat.
Like most, last year was the first time in many years that we didn’t have time off to go away on holiday. In conjunction with my dry hands, the short January days, the long January nights, we are feeling a bit worn out and we know many of you are too.
So we wanted to reiterate something we said in an email last week: we are here, if you need support or if there is something we can do to help, just let us know. One of our customers got in touch last week and asked if we could develop a module on the new “Right to Work Checks” required since Brexit and we are now working on that module; will keep you posted on its progress.
Celebrate Social Care
Hopefully, 2021 will be a year of getting back to normal. I sincerely hope that the government measures have the required effect and we can start that process as soon as possible. Let’s look forward to when we can get together for a good old-fashioned face-to-face meeting or conversation, without PPE and restrictions.
Let’s look forward to when families can visit their relatives again. Let’s look forward to the longer days of Spring that will be with us before we know it.
Lastly, let’s celebrate social care and all the amazing people that work in our sector and all the amazing things they have done over the past 11 months. We would love to hear your stories, please do share in the comments below. We want everyone to know about the amazing work that goes on, day in day out, in social care – no matter what!
Be safe everyone…

4 年I have actually set myself a goal. With hopeful thinking and lots of dedicated work I would like to finish my apprenticeship with a distinction. I would like to fill this year with opportunities to grow professionally, take mistakes in my stride and learn from them to become a stronger team member.

4 年Thanks Sarah. I think Social Care has got more attention and respect in the last year but its still not enough. Lets hope that in 2021 Social Care and all the amazing staff in the sector get the recognition and support that they really deserve. I've avoided doing a resolution, but I have been exercising more in the last few weeks as January is always the worst month of the year for mental health and in general.

4 年As we started 2021 I decided not to make any resolutions because losing weight etc seemed too out of place with everything. Then I changed my mind! This year I resolve to "be kind to myself and seek contentment". Possibly the hardest resolutions I have ever made but I am really excited at the challenge of my unrelenting pursuit to be positive, accept our current situation and my place in the world, whilst looking for opportunities for joy and fulfilment wherever they may be.
