We Are Here to CLOSE Loans, Not DENY Them

Let’s address a common misconception about the home loan process. Many people believe it’s rigged, and that lenders and underwriters intentionally complicate the process, approving only those with perfect credit, minimal debt, or high incomes. This couldn’t be further from the truth (for us).?

At RMN, our mission is to help people achieve homeownership. We’re here to guide you through the process, not to create barriers—because we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to buy and close on a home and realize that American dream..

We understand that this stereotype may stem from the underwriting process, where questions can occasionally arise. At RMN, however, we take a proactive approach by thoroughly addressing details upfront to ensure as many of those potential questions are answered before the underwriting process even officially begins.?

This is easy to do when you have an in-house underwriter, because any questions that do come up are resolved quickly and efficiently. We understand every lender is different, but when you work with us, you get to reap the benefits of our seamless underwriting process!?

Why Does Underwriting Make Some People Nervous?

The stereotype that the underwriting process for home loans is “out to get people” likely stems from misunderstandings about how the process works and why it’s so thorough. This perception was also likely further fueled during the 2008 financial crisis when stricter lending practices were introduced in response to the housing market collapse.?

However, the intention of underwriting is to protect both lenders and borrowers. The process is designed to assess risk and ensure borrowers can reasonably repay their loans, which may come across as critical if you weren’t familiar with the ins and outs. But by thoroughly assessing a buyer’s financial situation, underwriters help ensure they’re not taking on a loan that could become unmanageable. This step protects buyers from future financial strain and sets them up for long-term success as a homeowner.?

While the process may intimidate you, it’s also confirmation for you, as the buyer, that you are entering into a mortgage agreement that is realistic and beneficial for you.?

Bottom Line: Underwriting is NOT Scary—With RMN?

We can’t speak for all lenders, as some rely on underwriters located in different offices or even different states. This can lead to delays if questions arise, especially if the pre-approval wasn’t fully solid upfront or if there were gaps in the information provided throughout the process.

We can speak for ourselves though and reassure you that underwriting is NOT scary. In fact, it’s exciting at RMN because it means we are that much closer to closing day, because we WILL get it done.?

Again, we can't emphasize enough the crucial advantage of in-house underwriting as the process progresses. Our underwriter is deeply familiar with our programs, customers, and Realtors. Each file is more than just paperwork—they come into the process already informed, often having been looped in along the way. This familiarity ensures a more seamless and efficient assessment, saving time and avoiding delays.

At the end of the day, the lender you choose makes all the difference.
