Are We Helping or Enabling?

Are We Helping or Enabling?

Often when our loved ones are struggling with drugs, we want to reach out and help. This is perfectly natural, and it says something wonderful about you! However, we should know the difference between being helpful versus enabling, as we might actually be hurting them.

Enabling happens when we try to cushion our loved ones from the consequences of their substance use. This inadvertently encourages the person grappling with addiction to use more and take advantage of your good intentions.

What can you do about this? Learn the differences and how to take better care of your loved ones and yourself.

Visit our website to take our course entitled, Addiction: How Friends and Families Cope. If learning online is not your forte', come and take our workshop on January 25th.

One way I help those who are on pain meds is through the art of two person stretches called the Rossiter system of works out. Get rid of the pain and the drugs can also stop. The Bemer is another way get off of drugs by increasing the micor-circulation; more oxygen, nutrients, less toxins is a good thing.
