Are We Helping Create the Capacity to Engage?

Are We Helping Create the Capacity to Engage?

This week, we’ll dive deeper into the last driver of employee engagement: psychological availability (having the capacity to engage). This one is influenced by outside factors, but employers still have a big impact particularly in recognizing job-driven stressors, as well as providing training and feedback.?

?Here are some considerations for psychological availability:

  • Does the person have the physical resources they need?
  • Is job stress impacting the person’s ability to renew outside of work??
  • How is their confidence in their ability to do the job?
  • Are they confident that if they invest themselves, they’ll succeed?
  • Is there enough training and feedback so that team members can feel confident to do their work?

Action: Use this checklist to gauge whether your team has psychological availability.

“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our sense of self acceptance.” – Brene Brown
