We have the benefit of hindsight - which we should use for foresight.

Clearly in the USA we have not contained the virus. Now regularly we have 1000 new cases in VA per day as opposed to 400 when we shut down.... The idea that we would shut down the economy did not seem to me to be an option but we did it.... The principles of social distancing clearly are essential and have a very big impact in reducing the compounding effect of spread...

That said. We also have crippled not only our economy but also our healthcare industry. Setting up our hospitals to be Covid 19 facilities and thus limiting or eliminating usual business has been financially catastrophic to our hospitals. I have been told UVA alone lost as much as 3 million a day during this anticipated preparation stage.

The 7000 bed Covid CRC would have cost 80 million dollars to create. It would be paid for by now if you consider the added damage done to Sentra in Lynchburg, Martha Jefferson(Centra health) and the fact that likely we could have also taken pressure off Richmond , Roanoke, and Danville.....

All that said the USA is faring worse in disease containment because we do not test enough early enough and we have no plan or program to separate. This is still not dressed. Testing is the first step. You can not ask people to separate in the corner bedroom - People must go to a supervised quality place where they go through the development course of the disease and are treated as needed in a safe way for healthcare workers....

The financial cost of closing the economy - the cost to the healthcare system - all int toward that as a society we would do well to implement something like the Covid19 CRC because we all know likely we are not done and with the change of seasons likely we will be right where we started in the fall or before....

My children are in the Czech republic... They have largely contained the spread to numbers between 4 and 40 new cases per day. Numbers that can be contact traced and kept low... they are now an island. We missed this and containing 1000 cases per day is a task much harder....

The Covid19 CRC stands as a concept and can be implemented in a matter of about 6 weeks. Dear State of Virginia it is there for you if you choose to need it....

Unfortunately it is correct the economy has to reopen.... unfortunately we did not use the very expensive period of closing the economy to move the goal post and get our daily infection numbers reduced. The Czech Republic has about the same number of citizens as does Virginia. They had more infections and have contained the daily infection numbers to 1/30th of where we stand today... we lost that opportunity... social distancing is essential -- but I am not sure it is enough....

It does not matter that we now test more than anyone... now we have to test more than anyone because we have more or of a problem than anyone.... the key is to work preemptively and early as to not let the monster grow too strong....

The key is to septette sick people as fast as possible.

This is not just another flue. It is much more serious and it is here to stay... I believe it is a virus that once you have it your body fights it for life. I would not be surprised if it comes back when people get old or sick in unrelated events later...

It has the characteristic of coming and going... I tested negative 6 days after I got very sick this year... I am sure I had it more than a month ago. I never lost my taste but my mouth was very different than ever before... one night I was sure I was in deep trouble but I refused to sleep and lay in bed although it is all I wanted to do... Instead I got up and walked around outside doing deep breathing (and I had a high fever) exercises -- I spit out as much of flew and mucus as I you;ld create.

It worked the next day it was gone... the following day it came back but less... I did the same thing.. the following day it was gone.. the fever came back again and again a few more times... the taste in my mouth took a month coming and going....

Covid19 is serious. Our leadership largely failed us by loosing early crucial time. Both parties politicians failed us by finger pointing the details rather than really having a unified "all in" approach. We never really closed down... We only reduced.... T Covid 19 CRChis is why we are where we are... Our leadership is correct in that we must reopen.

Maybe we learn from the past... today - to me - the next steps are very obvious.. the answer is have testing in place. Have a separation facility in place - separate Covid19 treatment from the regular health care system in a separate open air facility designed to keep the healthcare workers safe while not killing the regular health care industry.
