We are Happiest when we experience a balance between Pleasure and Purpose in our daily activities.

I had a months’ holiday. I thought it will be a great opportunity to binge on few online web series. It felt like fun to begin with during initial few days but thereafter it stopped feeling like pleasure to me. I didn’t feel like spending anymore time on it. Even the thought of work started appealing to me more than continuing to binge any further. I started helping my daughter with her studies, registered for an online course, spent some time organizing my wardrobe. These things left me feeling much happier than before.

I realized that happiness doesn’t come just from joy or pleasure, in my case binging on web series. In addition to being fun, joyful or pleasurable what we are doing must also have some purpose, something that we perceive as important. Therefore, in order to feel happier, it would be a good idea to invest some efforts & creativity in making all our activities a combination of Pleasure & Purposeful.

If you are engaged in some kind of work which is of great importance but you don’t find it pleasurable, you can simply insert some short “pleasure” breaks in your work day. You could chat with colleague for a while, take a short walk or just simply listen to your favorite song. I have now adopted this strategy. It is helping me feel more happier than before. You can try this too.

Wishing you more Happiness, everyday.
