A Collaborative UX Training Journey for Non-Designers

Last updated on July 6, 2024.

"When we learn together, we grow together." This simple but impactful statement guided me in developing a course on end-to-end digital product design tailored to non-designers.

Over the years, working with many in-house product and marketing teams, I noticed that "UX responsibilities" often fell to individuals with little to no proper introduction to UX, causing them fear and stress. This observation inspired me to create courses to help non-designers confidently embrace UX.

"Enjoyed the course. It felt like a good starting point for those, like myself, who are unfamiliar with the processes for UX." -Tegan

1. What Set This Course Apart

  • Practical Application: Participants gained the knowledge and tools to immediately apply UX principles to their current projects while building a foundation for future growth.
  • Flexible Yet Structured: The course offered a structured approach to designing products while allowing flexibility to adapt to individual workflows and needs.
  • Small Victories: We celebrated small wins along the way, recognizing that progress, not perfection, was the goal.
  • Personalized Learning: Understanding that "one size fits all" doesn't work in UX, we tailored the learning experience to specific challenges and goals.

2. Key Themes

  • Understanding the fundamentals of UX design
  • Conducting user research and gathering feedback
  • Developing user personas and journey maps
  • Creating wireframes and prototypes
  • Testing and iterating on designs

3. Why This Matters

Equipping non-designers with UX skills benefits companies and individuals and enhances the overall quality of their digital products and services. By fostering a deeper understanding of user needs and expectations, we can create more intuitive, engaging, and impactful experiences.

"Jamie is a great teacher and a clear communicator. His lessons provided insight into the UX process and useful tips for selling UX to my company." -Davis

4. Reflecting on the Journey

Though this course iteration has been retired, the shared principles and lessons continue to resonate. If you're a non-designer who finds yourself taking on UX responsibilities, remember that you can embrace these challenges with confidence and make a significant impact.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the journey. Together, we built a community of confident non-designers passionate about creating exceptional user experiences.

Jamie Gerrard I love the importance of knowledge and application. Great knowledge is distributed all the time, but not everyone provides action planning and fulfilment.
