Are we going to cross 200?

Are we going to cross 200?

Are we going to cross 200?

In recent times, we have been confronted with a staggering reality. Since the beginning of 2023, the United States has experienced over 200 mass shootings in just 127 days. This alarming statistic raises questions about the state of our nation and compels us to seek solutions that can bring about positive change.? The solutions are multifaceted, and this writing provides a perspective of just one facet, the mental health issue.

While this is not intended to instill fear or amplify negative sentiments, it serves as a call to action. We must acknowledge that a problem exists—one that cannot be denied any longer. The safety of our schools, banks, medical facilities, religious institutions and even shopping malls is being compromised.

?It begs the question: Can anyone truly feel secure in this environment?

If the answer to that question is “uncertain” or, for those who have been directly affected already, a resounding "No," then we must contemplate what can be done to address this issue.

Are we destined to be victims of a growing number that currently stands at 200+ and continues to rise? This "+," added to the count, signifies the uncertainty of the future, but it is not meant to evoke despair. Rather, it is a reminder that we must face the reality before us.

So, what will it take to bring about change? Is there a definitive answer? Will we continue to just offer prayers and attribute these incidents “solely” to mental health concerns, while allowing the cycle of a life-threatening roulette to persist? ?(I realize that there are other factors at hand in this disastrous situation…however those other factors are not my expertise. And they will not be addressed here.)

Allow me to clarify my position.

First- I am NOT a licensed healthcare provider, a medical practitioner, psychologist, psychiatrist or even a neuroscientist.

My expertise lies in understanding the workings of the human mind—conscious, subconscious, and superconscious. While this may initially sound perplexing, grasping the roles these three aspects play in our lives sheds light on why some individuals may suddenly “act out” and tragically harm others.

The majority of our daily actions operate at an autonomic level, driven by our subconscious “interpretations” of the world. These interpretations stem from our early childhood experiences and, in some cases, prenatal conditions. This highly personalized understanding of our environment perpetuates a cycle of behavior, thought patterns, and emotions that shape our interactions.

Unpleasant or traumatic memories, along with associated negative emotions, can be suppressed to avoid overwhelming our ability to function physically and cognitively.

?However, our unconscious mind's primary directive is to safeguard and preserve our physical well-being. It governs essential bodily functions such as breathing, digestion, and cell repair, freeing us from having to consciously manage these processes.

When a perceived trauma or distressing event occurs, the unconscious mind represses the negative emotions until it deems it safe to bring them to the conscious mind for resolution. Its purpose is to maintain the body's equilibrium, ensuring vitality and functionality. However, if these unresolved issues persist over time, they can trigger neurological pathways that make individuals feel out of control.

Please note that this description is a broad overview from my perspective, emphasizing the intentions behind negative emotions and the activation of repressed aspects (memories/experiences) triggered by various stimuli.

If you are grappling with overwhelming thoughts and emotions, it is imperative to seek help from specialized licensed healthcare providers or mental health professionals. For immediate assistance, please call 988 (U.S.) to access support or your local emergency crisis numbers.

If you are interested in discovering more about these concepts from a certified professional's perspective, I encourage you to reach out to me or someone similar.

Joy Willett, thank you for lending your voice to such an important cause. In full transparency, I've started to feel anxious and fearful about traveling to the USA. Supermarkets, Malls and schools where people are innocently going about their business seem to be the target of the shooters. It's also important that the message about being supported with mental health issues is ok. It's not taboo and it doesn't mean you're crazy! Past trauma is a huge trigger! We need to heal, forgive and release the pain. We do need more than prayers.
