Consider these points

Downtime - What happens when the "IT Guy" gets hit by a bus or wins the lottery? What happens to your server if it crashes while he is on vacation?

Knowledge - While your "IT Guy" may be very knowledgeable of certain things, it doesn't mean he knows everything about each of the many technological options available to you.

Service - Ask yourself, if several issues occur, can your "IT Guy" respond to them all in a timely fashion? How does this affect your business? Can you be on hold while he resolves the issue? Will your business keep running effectively while he's being reactive to an issue?

Only Source - Do you know what your "IT Guy" is doing? Do you have documentation? Do you know the  "Administrator's" password? Do you have access to ALL your filers?
