And Then We Get Bored

And Then We Get Bored

I remember when cars didn’t have power steering or brakes. I can remember ‘crank’ windows and those little triangle windows in the front that cars once had that you could adjust to create a little breeze while moving.

And just to be clear – I don’t just remember those cars, I drove one for a while.

Nowadays, cars are truly amazing, full of features that would have seemed (in ’77) to be complete fantasy. Well, those cars and those features are all over the place, but you don’t notice because they are boring.

I remember walking home from school for lunch with my brother. We were talking about the new color television that my father had bought, that we would be seeing it for the first time at lunch. Not only was it color, it had a wireless remote control. This was at least forty years ago. I remember telling my brother that the remote would make cartoon watching easier. I was right. Then I got bored with it.

I can remember life before the magic of the Internet, which I carry around on my phone. It is not so much a phone as it is an ‘everything,’ none of it is even remotely interesting. It’s just amazing and necessary.

I could keep this list going all day, and then you could take over from it about all kinds of other miracles that now bore you.

The point is …

Is it any wonder that your incredible LinkedIn post, tweet, Facebook posting, or idea isn’t generating more response and buy-in?

It was really cool. For a moment.

Now do it again, and keep on doing it.

Once you stay interesting for long enough, that makes you interesting all on your own.

Thanks for tuning in. Have a great Monday.
