We will either find a way or make one

I indeed fed my appetite for history recently when I witnessed keynote speech by Dali Rajic, President GTM & CRO at Zscaler (@ Zscaler Halftime SKO). He refereed the story of the great Carthaginian commander, Hannibal, when he spoke the above phrase. The Latin to English translation is: I will either find a way or make one. He is credited with this response when his generals told him it was impossible to cross the Alps, into Italy, by elephant during the Second Punic War (around 218 BC). This turned out to be one of Hannibal's greatest achievements in a military career that earns him praise today as one of history's great strategists.

He reminded of this historical perspective the other day as we start second half of the year

It is time to focus on what needs to be done to "find a way or make one" to our desired outcomes.

Post event when I was on my way back from Barcelona to Mumbai the thought was still deep rooted in my mind. “Find a way or make one” indeed inspired me to the core. When you are inspired ; the thoughts just flow and I did not loose any opportunity in jotting down same on paper napkin.

Here how I began:

Reminded myself of the planning behind the goals I laid out. Went back to the memory lane of worksheets or notes I took in preparing for 2020. Reacquaint myself with what I thought possible and why.

Assessed what is a realistic target for the remainder of the year and make it smaller. Broke my goal down to simple 30-day and then one-week action items. I decided to find an accountability partner and share my action items with them.

Discuss the best way that motivates you to stay on track and develop a system of accountability that works best for you.

Take time to visualize what life looks like when your objective is accomplished.

Move! Don't wait until tomorrow to act on what needs to be done.

So be bold, stop making excuses, and get moving on your 2020 goals! Remember, it's not like you're crossing the Alps with war elephants and an army!
