WE ARE DURHAM

WE ARE DURHAM

Hello Friends,

As some of you know, I am running for Durham City Council. I am running because we deserve the right to walk the streets of Durham and not be afraid of those who claim to protect us. We deserve affordable housing. And we deserve jobs that pay a livable wage.

I've spent my life standing up for others. I have travelled all over the country fighting against systemic oppression, racism, and police brutality. Now, I am standing up in my home state -- and I need your help.

The pundit class here says we cannot win, that we have no chance of even coming close. But remember the track record of "they": they said David couldn't beat Goliath, they told Martin Luther King Jr. the U.S would never integrate, and they swore a black man would never be president. We all know how those situations ended, and we're going to follow suit.

As part of our kickoff, I want to draw your attention to an alarming statistic: 661 people have been killed by police in 2015 so far -- more than any civilized country anywhere on the planet. We are working to create change from within, and to do that we're starting a #10towin campaign: we need 10,000 people to donate $6.61 to our cause. Your donation will fund a campaign that represents the common people, gives voice to the voiceless, and stands against systems that oppress others.

I hope you'll join me in building a better Durham. Please donate NOW at <https://www.wearedurham.us/donate> #WeAreDurham #StephensforDurham
