We don’t get in life what we want. We get what we tolerate

Do you ever wonder why you’re not where you want to be in life? We all reflect on past mistakes and wish we could just erase them.

I remember making a bad investment decision that had a negative impact on my life. At the time, it seemed like the right move, but as my understanding grew, I realized it wasn’t taking me where I truly desired to go.

That decision haunted me for years, as I realized the incredible blessing it could have been. While we can’t change the past, we can certainly learn from it.

Here’s the hard truth: We don’t get in life what we want. We get what we tolerate.

In other words, we settle for the minimum standard we’ve set for ourselves in every aspect of life. Take a look at your investment strategy or your health, for instance. They are where they are today because of the minimum standard you’ve consciously or subconsciously allowed. And if they’re not where you want them to be, it’s time to make a change.

So, how do we immediately improve areas of our lives? It’s simple but magical: Raise your minimum standard.

This three-step process will help you elevate your standards to match your desires.

  1. Get clarity on your current position:?Choose one area you want to change the most and assess where it stands today on a scale of 1 to 10.
  2. Raise your standard:?Set an intention for that area and decide what you will no longer tolerate. For example, if you’re focusing on money, set a minimum standard for the amount you will accept in your bank account. Anchor it within you and refuse to settle for anything less.
  3. Commit First:?Declare to yourself and others that this new minimum standard is your new reality, and you will not tolerate anything else. Refuse to lower your standards to where they were before. Make this commitment to your banker, a friend, and most importantly, to yourself.

Now, here’s where the magic happens.

Raising your minimum standard not only changes your future but also transforms your present. With a new standard for the future, your present decisions will align with your new standard because the choices you made in the past won’t lead you to the new level you’ve set.

Your standards and your stories have brought you to where you are today. In another article I wrote,?“You’re Giving Away Your Power. Here’s How to Take It Back,"?I shared a powerful strategy to change your story and change your life. Your new standard will create new stories and propel you from where you are now to where you want to be in the future.

Armed with your elevated minimum standard and empowered by new decisions, take a look at other areas of your life where you can apply this same approach.

Watch as your life begins to transform.

In conclusion, if you’re tired of more of the same, it’s time to stop tolerating things that don’t align with your desires. Stop settling for less than what you truly want. Don’t tolerate a life that falls short of the standards and privileges you deserve. You are worthy of better, and it’s time to claim it.
