We Don't Bleed - We Rust
Water industry operators are the unsung heroes who ensure our water is clean and safe. Their dedication and hard work keep our communities healthy and our environment protected.
I have hazy memories going back to the early 1970's, when my grandfather (Pop) used to work the pumps and valves at the wastewater treatment plant next to the Bankstown Aerodrome in Sydney's west.
I can remember the large concrete trickle filter settling tanks with the boom arm that used to circulate across the top. I remember the smell in the air and the pump house with the vast array of?giant red cast iron pipes, chains, pumps and valves. I can still see him standing there on the grated platform in his overalls, spinning the cast iron wheels to open and close the valves to make the whole system work.

Water industry operators, like my grandfather, are essential in treating sewer and wastewater. They operate and maintain the equipment and processes that remove contaminants from wastewater, ensuring it is safe to return to the environment or be reused. This involves monitoring equipment, performing water quality tests, and making necessary adjustments to the treatment process
When I think of my old Pop putting in a hard day's work, I am proud of the job I do today with EJ. We help protect the blokes like Pop get the job done safely and return home their families each night. At EJ, safety is our first core value, and this is not only about our workplaces, but also in the products we design and make for projects all around the world.
Wherever you are, if it's an EJ product installed, you can take great comfort in knowing it was built by the EJ family who've been making manhole cover, grates, hydrants and valves for the past 140 years. Since 1883, we've be getting up early, just like our customers, to safely get the job done.
