We Are Doing All Of This For Our Kids

I’ve recently taken part in a CEO conference titled “How to ignite passion in your team”. The main topic was making team members involved in achieving results and what it takes to motivate modern generation. I recalled an experience we had on an early stage of releasing our products onto the market.

From the very beginning, we provided customer support and sometimes we got calls from kids. One time we got a phone call from a girl and the operator did the right thing putting it on speaker. It’s worth mentioning that we have an open plan office and the whole team is always aware of what’s going on. This girl spent five minutes thanking us for the live character dancing on her hand. She called us magicians, told us that it was the best book in her life and how grateful she was. The whole team was very proud with such a sincere acknowledgement of their work.

But we also had a totally different experience once. This time the operator put the call on speaker as well. A five or six-year-old girl was scolding us using bad words because she had some problem with our app and the character she had colored didn’t come alive. She was crying and calling us stupid idiots. Naturally, we immediately fixed it, helped the girl and sent her a gift. But as soon as the call was over, I got the team together and asked them if they wanted kids to experience such emotions. No doubt, mobile apps can malfunction and any developer knows that. But can we simply accept that some of our young users will be disappointed when interacting with our books? While creating a new product, our team members are constantly asking themselves what kind of emotions this product will make kids experience. Our main goal is to make the time children spend using a mobile device as useful and interesting as possible. The core value of our team lies in the fact that we are doing all of this for our kids.
