We Die Twice: Did You Know That? In life, we face two distinct deaths. The first is physical, inevitable for everyone. The second death, however, is when we are forgotten, our names no longer spoken. It's this second death that we have the power to avoid, primarily through the legacy of giving.
Giving, especially in ways that empower and uplift others, ensures our influence and memory endure long after our physical departure. This is where the story of Jo Lee Mascioli-Mansell becomes relevant for me. Jo Lee is one of my great mentors, the publisher of Jo Lee Magazine that has reached millions with each issue. For me, Jo Lee exemplifies how investing in people can create a lasting legacy.
Jo Lee's legacy is rooted in her commitment to education. Through her work with ADESTE, her charitable foundation, she has provided scholarships to students in Kenya, profoundly impacting their lives. But her contribution doesn't stop at financial aid. By investing in education, she's influencing not just individual students but also their families and communities. These students, armed with knowledge and opportunities, will go on to effect positive changes in their societies.
Each student helped by Jo Lee is a living testament to her belief in the transformative power of education. They are likely to remember her contribution for a lifetime, speaking of how she helped them forge a better life. This ripple effect of her generosity extends her influence far beyond her own lifespan. Jo Lee does this because she loves knowing that she has helped in making a profound difference in the lives of young individuals that in return will do the same for themselves, their families and communities. This brings a big bright, comforting smile to Jo Lee, knowing she has impacted others in positive lasting ways.
Jo Lee's approach offers us a clear path to avoid our second death. By focusing on giving, particularly in ways that empower others to improve their lives, we create a legacy that lasts. It's not about being remembered for wealth or fame, but for how we contributed to the betterment of others.
Find what you love and invest in it while you can. We avoid the second death by ensuring our actions leave a positive, lasting impact. Like Jo Lee, if we invest in people, especially in ways that enable them to build better lives for themselves and their communities, we ensure that our names and deeds live on. This is the essence of a legacy that defies our final farewell.
