WE DID IT!

While this week’s snow storm is fading from memory as we await the arrival of spring, Tuesday was a rough day in Monsey, where we are based.

While the predicted blizzard didn’t pan out in many areas, Monsey was as bad as predicted. Roads were impassable, and most everyone was stuck home. Not only the staff from Brooklyn and Lakewood wouldn’t be able to get to work, but also those who live in Monsey were stuck at home.

How would we get the paper out?

 Late Monday as the storm bore down, we devised a plan to produce the paper with everyone working from home. I was home, in Lakewood. The work was divided up. The publisher and his assistant – who came in on Monday and stayed overnight right by the office - were the only ones in the office. Actually there was one intrepid and dedicated graphic person who made it to the office as well.

They were on top of all the editors, graphic designers & layout and coordinated the operation remotely. Boruch Hashem it worked out much better than we expected, though it took a little longer. For the first time in our 29-year history the paper was produced remotely and sent to print in New York City. Pressmen had difficulty making their way to the printing plant, so printing was delayed. The airports were a mess, impacting our shipments across the country and out of it, but by and large we were able to make it work.

When you pick up your paper this week you have no clue of what went it to getting it into your hands!

The cover summed up the feelings of us around here and so many others, “Spring Delayed.” It’s most likely frigid where you as you read this, but have no fear, the snow will melt, the temperature will rise and you will spring ahead with extra bounce in your step before you know it!
