It is often said that few things are as gratifying as being a self-assured old soul like me and revelling in the satisfaction of uttering those triumphant words, "I told you so." And lo and behold, here I stand, proudly proclaiming my prescient assertion! That things have changed and we are just about to embark on the most powerfull significant change within the employment market. But we can either keep looking up or take action of our own desitny.
The captivating documentary "Rise of the Entrepreneur" initially emerged from the creative mind of the remarkable Eric Worre roughly 8 to 10 years ago. For as long as I've been involved in the lifestyle industry, I've faithfully revisited this documentary annually.
Contemplating how A1 has revolutionised the employment landscape, it's striking that numerous individuals still cling to the idealistic notion that a university degree will catapult them into the upper echelons of the top 20% income bracket.
As of March 2023, the United Kingdom's registered working population hovered around 33.5 million within a total population of 67.5 million.
Now, before you delve into this video, let me furnish you with some statistics that should align your thinking. Though they pertain to the United States, the current largest global economy, they are equally applicable today as they were a decade ago.
Presently, approximately 33.5 million workers are registered with HMRC.
- If aiming for the top 1% of earners, that translates to an annual income of £160,000.
- For the top 0.5%, the threshold is £236,000 per annum.

- The elite top 0.1% garners £650,000 annually.
- The upper 2% category requires an income of £100,000.
- Roughly 1.5 million individuals in the UK earn above £100,000 yearly.
- For those earning £85,000 and above, they belong to the top 5%.
- The top 20% also makes around £83,000.
- The 25% immediately below boasts an income of £53,000.
Hence, approximately 6.7 million Britons comprise the top 20%, where as 26.8 million earn less than £53,000 per annum. The lowest 10% struggles to make ends meet with a meagre £8,550 per year.
Though numerous factors influence income disparity, there is indeed ample room to ascend into the top 20% or even the coveted top 5%, contingent upon one's values and determination. Yet, the crux of the matter remains: three-quarters of the working populace earn less than £53,000 per annum. Do the maths, and the rationale for an increasing number of individuals pivoting their spare time away from a linear wage structure becomes apparent.
