We Decode HP's new Business Laptop Naming Scheme for Fleet Buyers.
The Laptop Company Limited
The preferred hardware and deployment provider for IT fleets across NZ.
Along with new HP business laptop announcements at January's CES 2025 - fleet buyers may have noticed their new naming convention. This was introduced with the HP EliteBook Ultra G1q, HP's first Copilot+PC, in mid-2024. We expect this branding to roll out over the next 12 months as HP release future EliteBook and ZBook models.
What are the changes?
Here are two equivalent models - a current and a newly announced laptop-to-tablet device for corporate fleet users due later this year. The breakdown of each part of the model names are bolded for buyers:
Current branding: HP Elite x360 1040 G11
This is an HP Enterprise (Elite) laptop-to-tablet type (x360) high-end (10 series) 14 inch (40) device from HP’s eleventh generation (G11).
New branding: HP EliteBook X Flip G1i Next Gen AI PC
This is an HP Enterprise (EliteBook) executive laptop-to-tablet type (X Flip) Generation one HP (G1) Intel-powered (i) device that is a Microsoft Copilot+PC (Next Gen AI PC).
Decoding other newly-announced HP laptops:
New naming format = HP [Model Family] [Type] [HP Generation +CPU Vendor] [Descriptor]
Model Family:
Type:
HP Generation +CPU Vendor:
Descriptor:
If the model name includes Next Gen AI PC then this will have the faster NPU required for Microsoft’s Copilot+PC features.

These are available in Intel, AMD or Snapdragon processors, depending on model.
HP laptops without the 'Next Gen AI PC' tag will generally have a standard AI NPU instead of a faster Copilot+PC NPU. If in doubt, check in with one of our Account Managers (contacts below) to confirm.
