In the 19th century, the environment was not the concern of engineers who made the first engine; their prime goal was to catalyze the industrial revolution and bring lots of fortune to their nations. When in the 1860s?physicist John Tyndall observed the phenomenon of greenhouse gases, then the world started recognizing the gravity of the situation but no substantial mitigation steps were taken until April 1970. In that April, millions of people marched across the streets of Washington DC to help counter the soaring threats to the environment. In this short article, we will try to highlight the efforts made by environmental enthusiasts and nations across the globe.
The Great Green Wall?
Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit organization active in Africa. It has powered the African nation to plant trees around the African Sahel on 100 million hectares of land. Average 1 hectare gives life to 25000 trees, 500% increase in nutrients in the land, 400% surge in the income and dozens of species. According to TRT World, The Great Green Wall profits women more than men because, in African countries, women exceed their male counterparts in agricultural activities. In fact, this wall has brought millions of smiles all across Africa, given homes to thousands of birds, and prevented rains bringing floods inshore.
The Smog Tower
It sounds fictional, but literally, a tower has been built that transforms polluted air into expensive diamonds. Smog contains a high amount of carbon, nitrogen dioxide and hydrocarbons. These particles affect human physiology. This increasing smog has reduced life expectancy by 10 - 15 years in highly air polluted cities like Beijing, where oxygen cylinders are used for pure oxygen. What happens is this smog tower sucks tonnes of polluted air from a certain height and filters nanoparticles from it and releases carbon-free air. Interestingly, the extracted carbon is then compressed, converted, curved and crafted into diamonds! To everyone's surprise, New Dehli has installed many smog towers all across the city.

The Farmer Drones
Every year the ecosystem loses 1.83 million acres of trees. It means massive destruction of bird habitats and fresh air reservoirs. Lightning a matchstick in a dark, a UK-based company (BioCarbon) kindled the bleak future of the earth with a farmer drone-driven tree planting campaign. These super cool drones fly six feet over deserted lands and hit the soil with seeds that grow gradually grasping the ground going green. BioCarbon claims that it will restore 1 billion acres of trees every year. If it really happens, thumbs up to these guys!
The Fun Fact
As you sow, so shall you reap! We made cutting-edge technologies to dig deeper and extract lots of coal and earn huge profits. Similarly, gigantic chain saws swallowed trees and the fastest engines polluted the air. It is being said, now to recover the wound, we need cutting-edge inventions to reduce carbon footprint, smarter ways of reforestation, and efficient air solutions.
