Are we chatting with humans or bots?

The line between humans and bots is getting blurrier by the day.?

Taking this to the next level is a start-up called Hume AI. Its mission is to make sure AI serves human goals and emotional well-being.

The company’s latest brainchild, OCTAVE (Omni-Capable Text and Voice Engine), is a frighteningly clever bit of tech. It can whip up entirely unique voices and personalities from just a few descriptive prompts or even a short recording. Fancy a chat with a soothing Kiwi wellness coach? Or perhaps you’d prefer a fast-talking Brooklyn cabbie? Or how about a wise old wizard with a refined British accent? The choice is yours.??

From just a 5-second snippet, OCTAVE can clone a voice, bottle up its personality, and generate dialogue that captures the accent, tone, and even the vibe.??

OCTAVE combines cutting-edge tech like OpenAI's Voice Engine and Elevenlab’s TTS Voice Design. The result is a tool that lets you not just hear but properly interact with bespoke voices and personalities.

The tech is still being fine-tuned with a select group of partners. But Hume’s goal is to develop AI agents, personalise them for individuals, and even create them on the fly to answer a particular question.?

For seafarers who face the daily challenge of managing and documenting huge quantities of information, could a more personalised approach optimise some of those interactions? Would an AI system capable of adapting to different languages, dialects, and cultural nuances improve communication and reduce misunderstandings???
