We are the change we seek, the ones our ancestors prayed for!

Note From Founder

We are so thankful for your ongoing support and sponsorship of Makwande Art Residency. Your generous sponsorship has made a tremendous impact on our cause, and we would like to express our sincere appreciation.

Your kindness and support enabled us to successfully host our youngest artist in residence – Nthabiseng Boledi Kekani. During a paradigm-shifting 7 week stay in the South of France, she created her best works to date. Her journey of personal and artistic growth was breathtaking to witness and would not have been possible without your generosity. We look forward to sharing her catalog with you soon.?

Your support helped us extend our global village in an unprecedented manner. For the first time in our history, three African women joined us to stoke and fan our flames.?

We were delighted to accept our first intern, 17-year-old Kwanda Lumka hailing from South Africa. An art and French student, Kwanda had the opportunity to assist and observe Nthabiseng’s process in the studio. Words cannot express the infinite imprint this experience had on her in such a crucial stage of her life. We cannot wait to see what she has to offer the world.

We were also joined by our London-based, South African writer Dzunisani Ngobeni. She skipped the usual video calls for an in-person interview of Nthabiseng, revelling in the visual spaces from which an incredible body of work was created. Look out for our residency documentary and article.?

We concurrently continued the important work of promoting our artists in partnership with Ville de Nice. Our call for a gallery assistant was headed by Paris-based, Cameroonian, Astrid Yaoba. With extensive training in project management and client support, Astrid professionally headed our gallery visits, continuing our culture of personal guided gallery visits. We hope you get to meet her on your future visits.

Now more than ever, we understand that the impact of promoting African artists reaches farther than we can comprehend. We are so grateful for the growth you continue to champion and help us foster. We are the change we seek, the ones our ancestors prayed for. Thank you immeasurably.

Makwande..... Let There Be Growth!
