And the "we care" winners are...
Oliver Burkhard
Member of the Executive Board thyssenkrupp AG and CEO thyssenkrupp Marine Systems
Let's talk about occupational safety and health (OSH) at thyssenkrupp. Time to announce the winners of the “we care Award” 2019.
It was the decision of a jury: OSH experts , works council, board members. Of the many different applications, teams from Canada, the US and China impressed us the most. And a team from Chile receives a special prize. Our award is the Board’s recognition for our colleagues’ outstanding achievements in occupational safety and health.
So there we go: Our applause to the winners in 2019, the team of Materials Supply Chain Services in Canada. "Drive for 5" is the name of their idea, which goes back to the five levels of safety culture. They came up with an online dashboard that everyone can access and where progress with the implementation of ideas and measures is clearly visible. Security issues are an integral part of it, along with operational excellence and finance.
The second prize goes to China, where the teams of tk Escalator China worked with our "5 behavioral traps". You remember, they’re about why accidents happen although we have so many rules and systems in place. Our colleagues have included the traps systematically in their SBO program, the "safe behaviour observation program". We have learnt: It takes an open discussion culture to overcome pitfalls.
The third prize goes to tk Bilstein of America for their "Near Miss Reporting App". The team shows that in times of digitization we can use modern technologies to reduce our accident figures. When we hear about near misses and unsafe conditions, we fill out a form on a computer or smartphone and add a photo, as simple as a WhatsApp message. In fact, the number of reports has risen significantly - and the number of accidents has fallen!
Last not least, our thanks go to a fourth team, one from Industrial Solutions in Chile. They gave an actor in a wheelchair the role of a tk colleague who pretends that he was once seriously injured at work. The action was called "Invisible Theatre". In fact, we are awarding a special prize for their continuous commitment. Every year since 2016, the Chileans have managed to be shortlisted by the jury.
We at thyssenkrupp very much appreciate your creativity. Excellent, thank you. And to the others at thyssenkrupp who haven’t been mentionend here. It is always worth the effort, as there are no losers in this competition. Winners in the end: Safety and health.
