I had the privilege of attending the gala for Camp Del Corazon this weekend.? The keynote speaker was Dr. Jo Isabel-Jones. In the 1940s, she bravely decided to become a pediatrician, despite growing up in the segregated South where it was unheard of for Black girls to pursue such careers. Standing up for what she believed in, she participated in voter registration activities during the Civil Rights Movement in the South. Even today, at 80 years young, she remains passionate about driving change with grace. Her colleagues admire her for her poise under pressure, and she continues to inspire students and doctors as a mentor and colleague at UCLA's Pediatric Cardiology Department. Dr. Jo is living proof that following your soul’s calling can lead to an examined life as she settled into a career in pediatric cardiology.
Dr. Jo kept coming back to one specific piece of advice.? Be open to possibilities.? While we may have a specific vision of where we are going, life is full of interruptions, and we are presented with opportunities to transcend. She was adamant that we keep an open heart and share our learnings with young people. Similarly, companies and people are capable of so much more than we allow ourselves to imagine. We all have dreams, aspirations, and desires for our lives and world.? However, it's common for us to settle for less than what we can truly achieve. We often limit ourselves, believing that we're not skilled or talented enough to accomplish our most significant goals. But the truth is that we're capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for.
The first step to unlocking your potential is to change your mindset. You must believe that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, regardless of your current skills or abilities. This can be daunting, but it's essential if you want to grow and achieve your goals. The trick is to visualize the future and build it. Visualization can help you manifest your dreams into reality. When you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve, creating a plan is more effortless, so long as you are open to life interrupting. Your vision should be grand and ambitious.
When we visualize our future, we think about what we want to accomplish. Whatever it is, create a clear picture in your mind of what success looks like for you. Once we have a clear vision, it's time to start building. Take small steps every day to work towards your goals. Rome wasn't built in a day, but you'll make progress toward your vision.
The grander the vision, the more you will rise to meet it. When our vision is grand, it's easy to get excited about the possibilities. We're motivated to work hard and put in the effort to make our dreams a reality. A grand vision inspires us to be our best selves and rise to the occasion. That's when it's important to remember that growth happens outside our comfort zones. Feeling scared or uncertain is okay, but don't let those feelings hold you back. Instead, focus on taking small steps toward your vision. Break your goals down into manageable tasks and celebrate each small win along the way. Doing this will build momentum and gain confidence in your abilities.

Just remember, it doesn't really matter. Any of it. This might sound counterintuitive, but it's important to remember that the journey is just as important as the destination. The journey of working towards our goals is where you'll learn and grow the most.
If we focus too much on the result, we might miss out on the valuable lessons from the journey. You might also put unnecessary pressure on yourself to achieve a specific outcome, leading to burnout or disappointment.
Remember to enjoy the process if we have a clear vision, and working towards our goals is essential. Celebrate the small wins, learn from your mistakes, and appreciate the journey.
We are capable of more than we give credit for. Companies and people alike have the potential to achieve great things, but it starts with a shift in mindset. Visualize the future, set grand goals, and take small steps every day to work towards them. Enjoy the process and focus on the journey, not just the destination.
