We can't control the weather, but we can be prepared for it

As a French teacher in Nigeria, I’ve learned that teaching—much like life—is filled with unpredictable weather. Some days are smooth, like a sunny morning in Lagos, and other days feel like navigating a sudden Harmattan storm in Egypt. Yet, one thing is clear: we can’t control the weather, but we can always be prepared for it.

In our unique environment, we face challenges daily: limited resources, diverse classrooms, and evolving expectations. But these challenges are opportunities in disguise, shaping us into resilient, innovative, and adaptable educators.

?? Here’s my message to you this year:

  • Stay ready to learn and grow. Whether it’s perfecting your teaching methods, mastering new technology, or picking up innovative classroom strategies, let’s invest in ourselves.
  • Embrace flexibility. In a country as vibrant and diverse as Nigeria, being adaptable isn’t just a skill—it’s a necessity. Our ability to meet students where they are is what makes us exceptional.
  • Celebrate small wins. From helping a student grasp a tricky French phrase to inspiring confidence in a shy learner, every step forward is worth celebrating.

As we resume back to school as teachers this 2025, let’s focus on what we can control—our preparation, our mindset, and the energy we bring into the classroom. Let’s inspire our students to dream beyond borders and thrive in a multilingual, multicultural world.

Here’s to a year of growth, success, and making an impact. May 2025 bring us all countless reasons to smile! ???

Avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme...
