We Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup

It seems like such a simple concept to understand, but this term is thrown around on a pretty regular basis. If you haven’t heard this saying, you’re in for a treat. When you’re sitting at a restaurant, you expect the waiter or waitress to fill up your water when they see the glass running low. We wouldn’t expect the waiter or waitress to not fill up our cups, because they were trained and taught otherwise. We expect our loved ones to fill us with comfort and support, but we have to take the time to make sure they have the capacity to give that themselves.
Sometimes it’s harder to tell if a person is feeling more anxious or less-than due to a lack of confidence or fulfillment. We have to be metaphorical waiters to the people in our life. Checking up on their “glasses” periodically can make all the difference. Knowing that someone is willing to make the effort to fill your cup when you cannot can completely shift their mood from hopeless to hopeful. Periodically check in on yourself as well. This does not need to be justified! You need to make sure that the things going into your “cup” are words that up your soul, and ultimately raise your confidence to the highest level.
Here are a few phrases that can help “fill up your cup” any day of the week:
