Unexpected.
That’s my one-word description of this year.
But when I reflect on how my life has unfolded this year I couldn’t have predicted what I would end up achieving in such difficult and at times, upsetting circumstances.
- I’ve worn 35 different fancy dress costumes attending hundreds of work video calls, raising over ￡5,000 and counting for some incredible charities
- My 13th Christmas costume, and 35th costume in total is being worn as a bonus today. Enjoy and if I’ve made you laugh, all sharing and donations welcome
- I’ve learned how hard it is and the work it takes to juggle a fundraiser alongside a busy work and family life. It became like a second job but I loved every minute of it – appearing on the Zoe Ball Radio 2 Breakfast Show, ITV Anglia, on multiple local radio stations and my local paper are all memories I'll cherish
- I’ve judged at the This Can Happen Awards, one year after being an award winner myself – a brilliant and humbling experience
- I’ve become a This Can Happen Ambassador, spending time getting to know some of the most compassionate changemakers I’ve ever met
- I became an Ambassdor for Been There, a charity with a mission close to my heart – I can’t wait to do more in this space next year
- I pushed myself out my comfort zone and spoke about my mental health and wellbeing work on numerous podcasts and virtual events - more memories to enjoy
- I was a founding member of One Golden Nugget; a global digital community of wisdom
- And like millions of others I’ve adjusted to working from home; juggling family life and homeschooling with an intense day job. It hasn’t been easy and my own mental health has been all over the place but I’m okay with that and will continue to share my journey to help others
We can’t control the hand we are dealt, but we can control how we react and how we play the game. I’m proud of the game I’ve played this year – I hope you are too.
