When you think of rock and roll...surely your mind goes to ????
But if you're at all familiar with EOS, you know that rockS & rollS have a different meaning altogether. Though that's not to say we're any less cool than those guys above. Let's dive into EOS Rocks and how the Roles within your organization play a huge part in setting rocks.
But first, let me ask: Do you find yourself struggling to set good quarterly goals (or Rocks)? Or setting the same goals over and over and over again??
Here’s the thing: the day-to-day responsibilities of your role can’t be your Rock—unless there’s something consistently broken that needs to be addressed or a specific emphasis in a particular quarter.?
Even in that case, the responsibility itself doesn’t become the Rock so much as identifying the issue does.?
If you continue to find yourself drawn to the idea of using one of your core responsibilities or measurables as a Rock, it’s time to analyze:?
As an EOS Implementer?, I’d take this as an opportunity to remind the struggling team member *and* the leadership team (as it’s highly likely that this issue may be rooted much, much deeper) of the Six Key Components? of a healthy and strong business.

In this case, using The Issues Component? to solve the root cause of Scorecard numbers strengthens The Data Component?. Once this issue is solved, the employee no longer needs to create Rocks around it, and can instead move toward quarterly Rocks that take them outside of the day-to-day and allow them to think more strategically and big-picture, strengthening The Traction Component?.?
In reality, until you solve the root cause, this issue won’t go away. Remember: the goal of a Rock is that it *doesn’t* keep showing up.
