The We-are-HR May 2024 Newsletter

Dear Readers,

How was your Month of May?

We hope it was as eventful as our month of May!

We kicked off with participating in the Nuclear Race of 12K, which consisted of a fitness challenge for all levels based on permanent farmland with mud, woods, rivers, lakes, and fields.

The obstacles consisted of a 20-foot free-fall death slide, a 15-lane zip-wire into water, 120 metre permanent steel gorilla bars, and a 4-story-deep underground secret nuclear bunker.

It was such fun! Despite being a newbie, getting the #lovemud fix was a muddy memorable one!

Check out the details of the next nuclear race in September 2024.

We also attended and sponsored The HR Big Meet in London. It was such an amazing event, with a focus on amplifying the voices of women in HR through stories that really matter! We thoroughly enjoyed listening to our speaker, Kameka McLean, LLB, BA (Hons) , who spoke about “No one is me, and that is my Power.”

Kameka is currently studying her Level 7 CIPD in Strategic People Management at our centre, and she is such a dedicated learner with an amazing ability to balance a demanding job, family life, and studying! “Hats off to Kameka,” a true inspiration!

We were blown away by Lucy Adams ’s key note speech and some of her shared experience from her time at the BBC during the BBC enquiry over severance pay. Lucy went on to create The Disruptive HR Club which is a global membership-based community designed to help HR professionals stay ahead of the curve, learn new skills, and get the tools and resources needed to be successful in today’s ever-changing world.

At We-are-HR , we have a focus on future development and recognise that in an ever-changing world, it's imperative to be keeping up-to-date. We therefore recommend registering for the basic, pro, or team membership here.

We also enjoyed mingling with a few of our learners, Ina Terescuk and Karolina Madej who managed to get time off work to attend.

As People Professionals it's important to take time away to network, as this is where you learn, share ideas, and build resilience. Organisations should give employees time to attend such events as part of their CPD (Continuous Professional Development).

It was also lovely to meet Kirsty Baggs-Morgan?? in person, we are listed in the Evolve HR Directory and their App. It's such a great place to find all the resources and individuals you need for support and development, and community in the People Profession #findyourpeople.

Lastly, a huge thank you to Emma Djemil for organising this fantastic conference. We can only imagine how much work has gone into planning and organising this event!

In our centre, our monthly webinar, which focussed on “Building personal and Workforce Resilience and Wellbeing" was a huge success, with 65 registrations on Eventbrite!
