We will always stand up for Palestine

We will always stand up for Palestine

Dear Megaphone reader,

In January, the war in Gaza passed 100 violent days. During this time, the European Parliament has consistently failed to call for a ceasefire.

Last plenary session, Parliament voted for a ceasefire only if a number of preconditions were met, including for Hamas to be “dismantled”. Not only is this position unworkable, but it amounts to tacit approval of the violent status quo, allowing the Israeli regime and the IDF to continue its genocidal policy against the Palestinian people.

Shame on the EU for turning a blind-eye towards Palestinian suffering. The EU must respect the ruling of the ICJ and end its complicity by calling for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire. Funding for vital humanitarian aid and assistance to people in Gaza provided by UNRWA and others must be guaranteed, the EU must suspend the Association Agreement with Israel and introduce sanctions. We also need member states to end the lethal arms trade with Israel.?

Today, from 3pm CET, the Left is hosting an event “The right to exist”. Special guests include UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese and acclaimed historian, professor and author Ilan Pappé. You can follow online here.

The Left will always stand up to oppressors and stand on the side of those fighting for freedom, peace and justice.

The Left will always stand up for Palestine.
