WE ALL WANT PROGRESS, BUT WE NEED AN ABOUT-TURN

Yesterday was a very dark day in the history of American politics and culture. Like many of you, after months of trying to avoid the bitter arguments on both sides of the 2016 presidential election, I was faced with the inevitability of watching the rhetoric turn bloody on national television. The last time I remember such a personal assault on freedom and wisdom was November 22, 1963, when two brilliant lights were lost to the world: President John F. Kennedy from assassination; and the world famous Christian author, C. S. Lewis, from kidney failure. Given that the opposing forces in today's battle might be called "conservatives" vs. "progressives", it is useful to post this quotation from Lewis. I hope we turn back soon, before vitriol turns bloody again.
