We are all post offices
?It was the Chief's birthday. Everywhere was agog in a celebratory mood - it was a joyous moment, a time we all gathered to celebrate a successful man. And then it was time for the celebrant to speak.?
It was pin-drop silence. Our Chief was a man of many parts, love and hated alike yet this day he shared his thoughts in a manner and such sobriety that anyone just had to listen. Thus in the midst of so much to fill our eyes and minds with was a call that no one expected to learn.?
And Chief said..."I am a post office." I remember wondering if he just built a post office or something. I know many of you count me a success, he continues, but all I am is a post office (again I wondered). Chief then gave an expository of his post office analogy. You know, he said, that the post office receives tonnes of letters and parcels every day, yet the interesting part is that while it processes a whole lot of mails, the post office never receives a letter. I have come to understand this about me, and have realized that all the material gains I have made and achieved are not for me, but rather I am just like the post office through which my creator is routing help to others, the chief quibbled away. And then it sank.?
Post offices do a lot, they process a lot more, yet they are simply what they are - avenues or routes for processing what is meant for others. In the process of doing its very valuable work, they see through our emotion, our triumph, the pains and multiple others, yet all they must do is to deliver the same in the most comforting ways ever. They are not just a social service, they are our messengers - service centres who serve beside themselves.?

Looking at this, I begin to see the postman in me. Success for me wears a new toga by this understanding - for it is no longer a definition of what I have nor measured by the amount of money I possess and the position I have attained. No! It is rather reflective of making the most of who I am with what I have got. It means that my position and money which can be squandered or abused can also be applied to helping others. The part that is most telling is that we all have the help we can be and that our potential to make a positive impact is independent of our social status or how much we have.?
So here is the catch, everyone I help to be a better version of themselves gives me purpose and a sense of fulfilment - I am sure you will agree that that is not a bad life after all.?
Nugget: Helping can be thankless, yet it is a completion of our persons and our everyday call to service.
