We are all part of complex systems

“We are all part of complex systems.”

No person is an island.

Touch one strand in the spider web and the whole structure moves. That can be very frustrating for individuals, that see their good work in one area to have an unintended impact in other areas (team, department, organisation).

We often experience powerful resistance to change and a system grinding to a halt, whilst we hold the best intentions in mind.

How do we influence complex and self-regulating systems such as teams, departments and organisations beyond the implementation of frameworks (agile or otherwise)?

How do we shepherd them through the change towards long lasting and sustainable outcomes and increase performance at the same time?

This is the conundrum many agile and change professionals find themselves in.

We think we are going somewhere, only to be met with resistance, contempt, silence or outward enthusiasm, but poor results.

Beyond the frameworks and ways of working lies the Ways of Behaving. The unspoken agreement of how we will be with one another and how we adapt. Like it or not we are enmeshed within a web of relationships that constantly influence us.

This week I became part of an ever-growing community of professionals who believe the answer lies in working with the system and relationships using Organisation and Relationship Systems Coaching (ORSC TM).

It brings about the ability to reveal the system to itself, thus becoming self aware of its strengths, its obstacles and its potential.

Rooted in many proven frameworks such as Systems Thinking, Process Orientated Psychology, Constellations, Emotional and Social Intelligence, Mediation, John Gottman’s studies of personal relationships, Organisational Development, Team Performance Research and Relationship Systems Intelligence TM (RSI), ORSC at work combines the best of these industry practices.
