We all need a bit of luck sometimes...

I was reminded today that we all need a bit of luck sometimes...

Whilst sitting down for a quick lunch I heard a faint scratching sound. I stopped rustling my sandwich bag and listened harder, more scratching. I looked down to see a pest control 'radar box' flashing red (who knew we had those?). There was no doubt in my mind that there was a perilous mouse trapped within, still alive - for now at least. I called the pest control man.

Hours later, 'pest control man' ('PCM') arrived and confirmed that there was, indeed a mouse trapped inside and it was very much alive. He looked a little confused and murmured something about 'gas' - I'm led to believe that if an unsuspecting rodent scampers inside one of these 'cosy' boxes that a small expulsion of gas finishes them off in seconds, that's the plan anyway.

Lucky twist number one - The gas had failed to go off. I semi-joked to PCM that I wouldn't think any worse of him if he let the pesky mammal live. He shrugged this off whilst pushing the gas button repeatedly - the grim reaper was surely seconds away for Mickey? It failed to activate - lucky twist number two.

After some time, pest control man disappeared (with the box). My team and I said our fond farewells (to them both) as we pictured a weighted sack thrown down the nearest drain. He reappeared 20 minutes later saying that he'd eventually let the mouse go as he couldn't face killing him - IT'S YOUR LUCKY DAY MR MOUSEY!

Two days in to my new financial year, I'm taking this as a sign, an omen. It's going to be a good year!
