We are all lucky!

We are all lucky!

I'm normally a happy go lucky sort of person and don't let too many things get me down. However, watching the news unfold over the last few weeks has had a profound effect on me. The number of confirmed cases is increasing, the number of deaths is rising, the number of available loo rolls in the shops is decreasing and my ability to be a home teacher is about to get tested to the max. It's very easy to let that get you down....

Today however, I decided to take a different lens on the World....

1. I have fresh, running water - approximately 11% of the World's population don't have access to a fresh, clean, safe water source. I am lucky!

2. I have electricity - approximately 16% of the World's population do not have access to Electricity. I am lucky!

3. I have adequate food - Yes, I may not be able to choose from 20 different varieties of yogurt or find my favourite bread for a while, but I do have enough food! 1 in 9 people in the World do not have enough food and are undernourished. I am lucky!

4. I have a roof over my head and sleep warm at night - About 2 % of the population are homeless and 20% of the World's population lack adequate housing. I am lucky!

5. I do not live in a war zone, or fleeing from political or civil unrest, nor sexual or violent abuse - I am lucky!

6. I have family and friends that I love and love me in return - I am lucky!

So yes, the World is a little screwed up right now, but things will eventually return to normal for many of us and we should recognise how lucky we really are compared to many in this World. For them, even once Coronavirus disappears, they will still face a battle for survival.

Here's a beautiful picture of a Daffodil I took on my walk today.

Enjoy the simple things, count your blessings and I'll see you in the loo roll aisle of Tesco's in a few months.

The picture of the Daffodil is quite symbolic...a sign of change and indicator that Spring will be in full swing soon. When this surreal chapter comes to a close, the world will find itself in a moment that society will either transform it through real change or simply stuck in the same loop of predictable habits and behaviours. You are right, there are a lot of things we are lucky to have and those we do not have endure in our situations. After all of this, let's make it happen so that others are not left to continue enduring all of those things that society can actually change. Thanks David.
