We all love Technology, right?

We all love Technology, right?

Me personally, I 'fell in' to the Industrial Electronic Component sector in the early 90's

Back then, working for a Distributor, specialising in Opto-Electronic and E-Mech products

All quite boring for an 18 year old, wet behind the ears, lad

But, it was a job

Luckily, since then, my views and opinions have matured along with my age

I can honestly say, it has been the making of me

In 2000, and because of my prior years experience and knowledgebase, I was asked to take responsibility for an under-focused, under-performing Opto-Electronic and E-Mech product portfolio

  • LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays) - Character/Alphanumeric/Graphical
  • Relays & Switches
  • Connectors & Cables
  • Cooling Fans

Below, a 25 year old me, still with no hair and a lot slimmer...

This role really opened me up to and gave me exposure to many interesting companies and people

Working for a very, forward thinking, leading Specialist Technology company

And with the advancements in Integrated Circuits (IC's) and Microcontroller/Microprocessors

We started to see the birth of many new tech start-up companies all around the world, US - Silicone Valley, Scandinavia and other parts of Europe, including the UK of course

Introducing REAL, revolutionary High-Tech solutions, such as..

  • ARM (Low Power, High Speed, Core Processors)
  • Wireless (2/3/4G LTE Cellular, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, Zigbee & Z Wave Mesh Networking)
  • Camera Sensors & Modules
  • Sensors (Vibration, Motion, Temperature, Tilt/Switch etc)
  • High Brightness WHITE LED (Light Emitting Diodes)
  • TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) Displays
  • Touch Screens (Resistive & PCAP (Projective Capacitive)

Innovations that have help transform our lives over the past 20 years?

Me, being in Technology for 30 years and being a Dad of 2 teenage daughters

They are guilty of taking Technology for granted, until something freezes or stops working then it's Dad.....!?

They know I work in the industry, so expect me to be the master of coming up with the fixes needed to restore 'their world' that has just fallen apart..

In doing this, I often 'attempt' to explain the intricate detail of how technology works, which bores them senseless, I lose them in seconds..

I soon get their attention though, when I tell them, that without it, there would no

  • Smart Phones/Head Phones
  • Tablets
  • Computers/Laptops
  • LCD TV's
  • Modern Cars
  • Mobile/WiFi/Broadband Networks
  • Bluetooth/NFC
  • ETC, ETC

And without it, they would be doing what I did, and many of us of a certain age did growing up

Without it, they would be doing what I did, and many of us of a certain age did growing up

  • Playing in the streets and fields with mates
  • Playing Sports
  • Hedge hopping
  • Cherry knocking or knock down ginger, as some call it
  • Coming home when it got dark or when your mum SHOUTED dinners ready!!!
  • Watching 4 (yes 4) TV Channels on a colour screen, if you was really lucky
  • Listening to Gary Davies 'Top 40' charts on a Sunday, recording your favourite songs on your 'tape recorder'
  • Reading the Smash Hits and Shoot Magazines?

I now find myself doing the classic parent thing, and what my parents did to me

Telling them 'You don't know how lucky you are'

They just shrug it off, same as I did growing up

I honestly, would not anything about my childhood

Back then I loved doing all these things, but...

30 years on, I am extremely proud of the 'miniscule' part I have played in the Technological Revolution, I have lived and worked through and still do

So, are you Technophile or Technophobe??

It really does not matter, nobody is judging you

The fact is, Technology is in all our lives, all of the time, and we all use it and all need it

So, regardless, we are all embracing it

Personally, as a natural enthusiast and still working in the Technology sector

I am really proud and excited to be supporting in the next big advancements

  • Electric Vehicles and Infrastructure
  • Transportation and Infrastructure
  • Medical Science and Devices
  • Service, Information and Identification
  • Rugged Communication Devices
  • ETC, ETC

I hope you are too

Watch this space and lets all continue to change the world for our children and generations to come?
