In the world of sitcoms, few characters have left as indelible a mark on me as Chandler Bing from the TV series "Friends."
It may have been first transmitted in the mid 90’s but it gained another generation of fans as many Millennials and Gen Z’s who were too young to see it first time round , became hooked when it landed on streaming services and on constant repeat on various channels a number of years ago and indeed all 4 of the children in our house love ?? it and a lot of comedy in Friends? is timeless ..
Matthew Perry, who sadly passed away overnight last night , portrayed Chandler with such quick wit, sarcasm, and a unique brand of humour that endeared him to audiences worldwide and had us all laughing out loud .
As we look back on the show, I think that we probably all have a bit of Chandler Bing's humour in us, ( at least I do .. ??) and here's why.
1. Sarcasm is our second language:
Chandler was a master of sarcasm. He used it to navigate his way through life's awkward and uncomfortable moments, providing comic relief with his sharp one-liners. In our daily lives, many of us can often find ourselves employing sarcasm as a defence mechanism or to inject humour into conversations, just like Chandler did. I know I have done this on too many occasions.. ??
2. Self-deprecating humour:
Chandler was never shy about poking fun at himself. His self-deprecating humour was endearing and relatable.
We, too, often find humour in our own quirks and foibles, making light of our imperfections to connect with others on a comedic level.
I do this all the time and it certainly keeps me grounded and real ..
3. Timing is everything:
Chandler's impeccable comedic timing made him the standout character, in my view on and ‘could he BE any funnier …. ??
We may not be in a television series, but we all can recognise the value of timing in delivering a punchline or a well-timed quip during conversations with our friends and family.

4. Using humour as a coping mechanism:
Chandler often used humour as a way to cope with life's challenges. In times of stress or awkwardness, we find solace in humour as a coping mechanism, just as Chandler did. Laughter helps us navigate difficult situations and break the tension.
I often use humour to get through a situation that I am uncomfortable or even scared ?? about .. do you ?
5. Playful banter with friends:
Chandler's witty banter with his group of friends on the show is a quintessential part of his character. In real life, we engage in playful banter with our own friends and family, often throwing verbal jabs and sarcastic comments that make our bonds even stronger.
6. Embracing the absurdity of life:
Chandler’s humour was rooted in the absurdity of everyday life. We, too, can find amusement in the quirks, oddities, and absurd moments that life throws our way. Chandler's ability to highlight the absurdity of mundane situations resonates with our own experiences.
In my humble view ,Chandler Bing's humour has a universal appeal because it mirrors that which resides within each of us. His wit, sarcasm, self-deprecation, timing, and ability to use humour as a coping mechanism are all qualities that we can relate to.
So, the next time you find yourself delivering a sarcastic one-liner or embracing the absurdity of life with humour, remember that you're just channeling your inner Chandler Bing.?

RIP Matthew Perry and thank you for leaving your work with us,you will be remembered by generations to come . ??
