We all deserve an Instant Pause

We all deserve an Instant Pause

A friend of mine wrote to me about the Instant Pause retreat I’m running on the 2nd of September.

What she wrote really struck me for many reasons, but specially the phrase: “Everyone deserves an Instant Pause in their life” touched a chord, and the key word here is “deserves”.

How often do we do what other people expect of us and what makes them happy (our significant other, our children, our team, our boss, our company, our friends) but we don’t give ourselves what we deserve to be more engaged, passionate and present in our own lives: a transformative pause to be able to see things clearly and sift through the daily noise.

As they teach us during the security briefing on airplanes, “place your own air mask before helping others", taking care of ourselves is a pre-requisite to being able to take care of others. But we often forget this, and then life sends us into forced pauses. And I’m not speaking only about physical health, but also mental and emotional health. We probably all have many stories about how we’ve been forced into a Pause because we didn't listen to the signals, I know I do.

And a Pause is not something that is to be taken every number of years, but it’s about learning how to take pauses in our days and in our weeks, short ones and longer ones to recharge, to be better versions of ourselves and healthier/happier individuals. But we are so caught up, addicted to being busy and active, we are so caught up in getting "there", we are going "nowhere", albeit really fast. We have forgotten the importance of taking a step back to leap forward, we almost fear taking pauses.

Take the leap, give yourself and/or a friend an impactful one-day mindful pause in which you can regenerate, reflect on what has been to give you the energy to create more of what you want in your life.

Hola MaryAnn!
