We all carry the scars
I can't spend any serious time thinking about that day, without crying.?It ruins me every time.?It eventually becomes anger, but the sorrow can be overwhelming.?
I worked across the street from the World Trade Center at One Liberty Plaza.?My wife asked me to stay home that day because I had business travel plans for the remainder of the week, and we were expecting the delivery guys from Bob's Discount Furniture.?I was on the phone with a co-worker early that morning.?She was in San Francisco, and asked if I had heard about the plane crashing into the World Trade Center. I said no.?She said "Go turn the TV on.".?I didn't leave the sofa in front of the TV for the rest of the day, except for the anxious phone calls I had with my daughter Elizabeth, my son Nick, and my Mom.?My daughter and my son had run to their school office and tearfully begged to call home to check up on my whereabouts.?I spoke to them both and calmed them down.?My Mom was crying with happiness that I was ok.?
I went into the city 4 days later and walked the 3 miles from Grand Central Terminal to Church Street (a block away from Ground Zero, and as close as I could get). It was beyond weird, very dusty, many police roadblocks, massive telephone and power cables lining the streets.?Complete strangers were talking to each other.?I hugged a woman I didn't even know who was crying inconsolably.?The cops were making damn sure that no one was taking photos or videos of the wreckage or the crowds.?
I will never forget.

3 年I had since moved to Atlanta when this bombing had occurred, but it was surreal having lived on Long Island and being so acquainted with New York City. I just watched the 60 MINUTES season premiere yesterday dedicated to FDNY (Fire Department of New York) who's heroic men and women bravely fought and some gave their lives to rescuing as many others as they could in their fiery inferno. It was such a deep and heartfelt news reporting segment on this horrific saga with all the emotionalism attached to it in its storyline. One of the main fire department battalion commanders said, not one firefighter hesitated to go into the Tower that day! Some even went back into the second tower after the first one completely collapsed in their dedication to their call of duty to saved others, knowing their lives were inevitably going to be lost!! https://www.cbsnews.com/video/60minutes-2021-09-12/ #911 #FDNY #Firefighters #worldtradecenter

3 年I will never forget the day or the feeling as I watched each tower crumble. I still get the same feeling every year as we commemorate the event and continue to mourn the loss of so many good people. I will NEVER forget. Thank you ???? Dave Summers for sharing your story. ??

3 年I was working at Two Penn Plaza. My window overlooked the World Trade Center. I saw the second plane crash into the tower in real time. My first thought was, “That was no accident.” I walked home. The next day I went to work. I was sad, but also angry. “How dare someone do this to MY city.” I felt personally attacked. I also used to be able to see the Workd Trade Center from my apartment building.
