Our crush on this Wednesday is Jill Salyards!?We love her for many reasons.?She is an amazing mother, wife, friend, and dermatologist.?Jill is a mother of 4 boys!?Her son Cooper is 7, Lawson is 5, Sawyer is 3, and Whitley is 7 months old.?Her house is extremely calm, and orderly at all times, LOL!!!?She handles everything with such grace!?When you see her, you will say to yourself how does she do it all, and she makes it look so easy!?She is engaged with her children and intentional about creating special memories for her family.?
Jill and her family moved to Knoxville in September of 2020.?Jill grew up in California where her family resides.?She met her husband in California.?She and Andy Salyards were married 13 years ago during her first year of med school at Western University in California.?Jill’s father encouraged her to be a doctor all of her life.?In sixth grade she was valedictorian of her class, and in her speech she said that she would become a doctor.?I do not know anyone else that knew their life goals at such a young age and followed through!
?It was during her clinicals that she learned about dermatology.?She did a clinical in Ophthalmology and during that clinical she met an ophthalmologist whose brother was a dermatologist.?She learned about dermatology and decided this was the best avenue for her. ??She felt she could serve patients of all ages, and genders as a dermatologist.?
Jill and Andy moved to St. Pete Florida after Jill’s graduation from med school in 2012.?She completed her medical internship and residency in Florida at Largo Medical Center.?She and Andy intended on returning to California once her residency was complete.?Cooper was born during her second year of residency, Lawson during her first year working, Sawyer two years later, and Whitley was born after moving to Knoxville.?She is amazing!?A working mom, breast feeding, and pregnancies times four beautiful boys!?During the time that Jill was completing her residency and beginning to work as a dermatologist, her husband started 5 successful restaurants in Florida.?During Jill’s internship she would get off work, and then go and help in the restaurant.?Jill was able to manage motherhood, studies, her career launch, and help with Andy’s businesses.?She did this with the same 24 hour days that we all have.?I love the quote, “if you want something done, give it to the busy person.”?Jill is the busy person that will get it done.???
Andy wanted five children, and Jill two, so they settled at four.?Truthfully, after becoming a mother and experiencing the joy of motherhood, it was very easy to convince Jill to experience that miracle four times!???Jill has a passion for being the best mother she can be. ?She works hard to nurture her family and provide a foundation to create happy humans.??
Jill and Andy have supported one another through many life changes, challenges, and careers.?Something that is very important to Jill and her family is faith.?Moving to Knoxville in many ways was a leap of faith.?They sold their Florida home in January of 2020 with a long close date set for July. The intention was to move back to California.?Covid hit, and Andy’s family decided they were leaving California during covid.?The entire Salyards’ clan took a road trip through Tennessee.?They decided that Knoxville would be the best location for their family.?Jill applied to jobs and had a job within two weeks.?I am not surprised by this, as she is the type of person anyone would want to hire.?They made an offer on a home in Knoxville and moved in September of 2020.?Jill believes that God guided she and her family to this wonderful city!
The Salyards could not be happier with the decision to move to Knoxville.?They love the natural beauty of East Tennessee.?The Salyards enjoy being outside, hiking, waterfalls, mountains, and lakes.?Jill also loves the sense of community in Knoxville.?Her neighbors are amazing and have been able to help during several emergency situations including her going into labor with Whitley.???
Jill has always been great at planning and executing on the plan.?She and Andy have a marriage retreat once per year, when they go away for two nights.?They discuss career goals, family goals, and life.?From this retreat they created a plan that if Jill was unhappy working in a practice, within one year, she would open her own practice.?They started looking for office space before one year.?In April of 2022 Jill opened Refine Dermatology in Knoxville!?She has a beautiful office where she can serve patients. ?She has goals to expand and have multiple locations.?She really cares about her patients and wants to make an impact in the community by helping the people of Knoxville have healthy skin.?Jill is kind, gentle, and has a great ability to relate with patients and people in general.

During the marriage retreat time they also discussed some fun family activities.?For the Salyards, family is always first!?Some activities that they do with their four boys to create special memories are:
1)????Annual date day.?Each of the older three boys pick a restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.?They then pick a family activity.?Most recently that was roller skating.?
2)???Jill and Andy have individual date days with each of the boys.?
3)???Movie Night
4)???Wine and Cheese Night (No wine for the kids!?Just sparkling grape juice!)
5)???Game Night

This is just a snapshot of why Jill Salyards is our crush this week!?I think we can all see why she is amazing!?Jill and the Salyards family are a great addition to the Knoxville community.?I cannot wait to see what is in store for this #WC as she continues to live purposefully and invested in her dreams!
