Ohio KOA Sees Solid Turn Out to Celebrate Eclipse

The?Sandusky/Bayshore KOA Holiday?has been preparing for today’s (April 8) solar eclipse since last fall, when Alex Gooding & Ashlee Gooding, general managers of the family-owned park, first considered opening earlier than normal to welcome eager campers for the celestial event that is expected to have hundreds of millions of people in the U.S. looking up at the sky.

Typically, the over 300-site park, located on Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio, would have been closed until May 1, but the Goodings told?Woodall’s Campground Magazine?Editor Ben Quiggle, who is staying at the park for the solar eclipse, that they had compiled a pretty hefty list of campers throughout last summer who had indicated they would be interested in staying at the KOA if it opened early for the event.

Solar Eclipse Brings in Big Business for Texas Parks

With an estimated visitor count of more than a million people in Texas for next week’s solar eclipse, RV parks and campgrounds in the Lone Star State are bracing for big business.

Texas is expected to see the greatest number of tourists traveling for the April 8 solar event, according to Michael Zeiler, an eclipse cartographer, of the 12 U.S. states in the path of totality. ?Noted Texas economist Ray Perryman estimates those million-plus people will spend more than $400 million, a number dwarfed by the downstream and multiplier effects figure of $1.4 billion in expected economic impacts statewide.
