29 January – 1 February 2024 | Online |
Addressing transition risks in real estate and the costs of inaction on people and places
As much as 80% of the current building stock will still be in use by 2050, but with minimum energy standards set to be introduced before that date, the scale of buildings requiring transition to become in-line with legislative and tenant criteria is substantial.
Real estate obsolescence possesses a significant risk to both capital returns and wider society, yet efforts to limit embodied carbon require outright demolition to be avoided.
What policy instruments are managing unwanted side effects? What are the main emerging financing mechanisms and initiatives? How do we quantify transition risks? And most importantly, what are the costs of inaction on people and places?
A warm welcome to Andreas Trumpp FRICS, CREA? , Anna Tsartsari BEng(Hons), MSc, MBA, CEng, MICE , Dr Kevin Muldoon-Smith, Sylvie Sasaki and Thibald Gerardin who will join us at WBEF Week 2024 to discuss key initiatives and investment needed on this imperative topic.?
Across commercial real estate and construction, how well is sustainability being incorporated?
On 13 December, Kisa Zehra will reveal the findings of the 2023 RICS Sustainability Report and will discuss with sector leaders the challenges of reducing embodied carbon, the circular economy and investor demand for green buildings.
Our experts, Abdullatif Albitawi , Louisa Bowles , Frank Hovorka and Simon Sturgis will examine how close we are to achieving a global consensus on greener practices and the global challenges and opportunities for real estate and construction.
Impact investment: Supporting positive social and environmental changes in cities
While a powerful tool to address social inequalities, promote environmental conservation and foster economic development, impact investment is not without its challenges.
On 21 February 2024, a panel of experts will join us to discuss the scale and scope of impact investment, and the approaches for overcoming investment hurdles.
How can we encourage more innovation in public procurement projects?
While innovation can cut delivery times and reduce overall cost, this webinar examines how we can also manage the risk of introducing innovative technology and overcome reluctance to adopt new methods.
