Ways to tackle growing anxiety and stress

As our modern world progresses and we begin to rely more and more on technology and social media, it has become increasingly difficult for people to connect with their true selves. Spending more time in front of a screen, investing heavily in our virtual identity, and being faced with a daily overload of emails, social media, and news can lead to stress, overwhelm, loneliness, and anxiety. In fact, the World Health Organisation states that one in four of us will experience a mental health disorder at some point in our lives.

In order to manage negative emotions triggered by the stress of daily life, it’s important to learn how to switch off and reconnect with yourself.?

Disconnect

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, shut off from technology and the constant flow of content to give your brain a break. Taking a few minutes each day to disconnect from the online world and "do nothing" can provide a much-needed respite from constant stimulation.

Reflect?

Reflective practices can help to combat the overwhelming daily overload of technology and tasks. Activities such as journaling, therapy, or meditation can help you to establish a healthy routine and reconnect with yourself.?

Prioritize Sleep

When it comes to reducing anxiety and overwhelm, getting enough quality sleep is vital. With technology impacting our sleep cycles, it's crucial to recognize that sleep is not just a time for rest, but also for healing, repairing, and boosting your immune system. Get into a healthy routine, get some fresh air and exercise during the day, reduce your caffeine consumption, and avoid screens two hours before bed.?

Identify your Triggers

Most importantly, prevention is key. Always ensure to take the time you need and identify any personal triggers in order to best manage your emotions and anxiety. Stress is inevitable from time to time, but it shouldn’t be a constant in our everyday lives.

By taking the right steps to manage your daily technology consumption and learning how to reconnect with yourself, you will put yourself in a much better position to take control of your mental and physical health and live a more balanced life.
