Utilize technology.

Kaylee Dewitt at Top Echelon suggests speeding up the hiring process by using technology such as Zoom, Microsoft teams, or other video conferencing platforms to conduct interviews. Choosing a virtual interview, especially for a first interview, saves the interviewer and the interviewee time. If a second interview is warranted, that would be a good time for a face-to-face interview.?

Improve your screening process.

?Ryan Eglin, CEO of Core Matters says “An applicant tracking system (ATS) is an online program that helps with posting jobs as well as managing and screening candidates. There are hundreds of systems on the market today. The best option is the one the entire company adopts and uses.”?

“Create a list of essential and non-essential skills and experience tailored to the specific role. Keep it simple, just core skills, systems, and experience. Ensure you have a salary range and that the position has been approved by the relevant department. (Nothing is more frustrating to a candidate to have made the final rounds of interview and then have to wait for the position to be approved or signed off) – potentially losing interest and attending other interviews!”

Be prepared to present an offer on the last interview

“One way to speed things up is to monitor how the “onsite” interview goes, by talking with the interviewers right after the interview, or having them enter it into the applicant tracking system right afterward (tip: have a meeting scheduled for them to reserve this time, right after their interview). If you see enough positive signs, prepare an offer to present them at the end of the day” (Jade Rubick).

That's ok if you aren't ready to make a decision on that day, but don’t wait too long. The candidate may have other offers and dragging your feet could cost you a great candidate.?
