Ways to Increase Your Self- Esteem
“Self-esteem is not how well you can convince yourself that you are better than other people, it is whether or not you like yourself when nobody else is around.” ~ B. Wiest
Self-esteem describes :-
- What you think of yourself.
- A subjective judgement of your worth.
- Long-term evaluation of your strengths, weaknesses
- And the overall image you have Of who you feel you are.
High self-esteem comes from Being proud of who you are and what you do.
Building your self-esteem means taking action to become the type of person you can be proud of and shifting your mindset from one of dwelling on your insecurities to focusing on and celebrating you strengths.
12 Ways To Enhance Your Self-esteem:
1. Brainstorm your strengths, gifts, abilities and talents. Express gratitude for these and actively seek out ways to express them in your everyday life.
2. Focus on the parts of yourself you can change. Work on self-development through setting goals, new habits and positive intentions.
3. Have an understanding of the type of person you hope to be and align your actions with that ideal. Seek out inspiring people who empower you to become a better person.
4. Act the way someone with high self-esteem and self-confidence would act. Value your time, take time to look your best and take care of yourself.
5. Consume positive and inspirational content, through listening to the stories of other people whom have overcome similar challenges or insecurities.
6. Change the story you tell about yourself and your mindset.
7. Invest your energy in actively improving yourself rather than comparing yourself to others. Stop comparing yourself to people, unless they inspire and empower you. Limiting social media can help with this.
8. Remember that you are not your circumstances.
9. Never feel you need to bring yourself down to make others feel better and learn to accept compliments graciously.
10. Set high standards and clear personal boundaries. Don't allow others to control you, take advantage of you or treat you in a way that ignores or diminishes your value. Don’t give your time or energy away too easily and invest in people who invest in you.
11. Take the time to look after your health, eat well, exercise and care about your appearance. Allow your outer beauty to reflect your inner beauty.
12. While looking your best can help you to feel good, a beautiful appearance does not guarantee a beautiful life. Understand that your worth ultimately doesn’t come from external factors like looks, career, but is something that is cultivated from within. Accept low self-esteem as a normal and common experience, but don’t allow yourself to remain trapped there.
