In my experience in Public speaking, I’ve noticed that when one speaks, the audience expects one to tell them something they haven’t heard before. That means a speaker must be original. It’s vital to be genuine and use your own stories at all times when delivering that speech. As a speaker, you must build an authentic presence. Here are a few ways to build your authenticity in public speaking;
??Don’t speak from a script; building an authentic presence requires you to imply a natural state. Reading from the script takes you away from connecting with your audience because your eyes are on the script. Instead of reading through your script, jot down your key points on a note and leave it on the lectern in case you need to look at it. This way, you can let your language flow.
??Match your gestures and tone to your content; To be authentic, you must allow your gesture to sync with your words. This projects your authenticity. Never try to imitate another person's speaking style or gestures.
??Be vulnerable but don’t overshare; Some people think that being authentic means saying whatever is on their mind. They might say I’m being honest or open. I strongly believe authenticity entails emotional intelligence, which means we should only share our thoughts when our audience can hear and understand them.
Lastly, cultivating self-awareness in everyday life is one of the best ways to develop an authentic presence as a speaker. Be honest with yourself, walk through the world with integrity, and be truthful with others.
Remember, you are the only you to ever exist.??

2 周Love this. While I agree with all the points shared above, we must recognize that speaking without notes is another level of skill development. One has to master it well enough to pull it off. So my recommendation is to start out going with your notes all the time till you get to the point where you realize you don't even need it
