We’ve been in this industry long enough to identify some of the weak spots in hiring. As we discussed last week, the hiring process is broken. One area where we see it particularly flawed is rate expectations. We've advised thousands of developers and companies on our platform through the process of finding a rate that makes sense for the work being done.

We've all seen someone try to save money upfront, only to spend more time and resources later. Don’t be that person. Consider the value for money equation. At Gun.io, we engage with clients, human-to-human, to understand project needs. We seek clearly defined project requirements—not just required tasks, but also tech stack specifics, communication preferences, compatible crossover hours, etc.—to guide towards best-fit candidates. Our priority is understanding needs. Once we understand these needs, we can use market data to recommend a rate based on expertise, location, and project complexity.

We’re fortunate to have thousands of data points to help calculate a baseline rate recommendation based on location and years of professional experience.
